Blog: "Behind the Scenes: A Tribute to Every Video Site" by Sam Greenspan A commentary on A Tribute to Every Video Site "A Tribute to Every Video Site" has been a huge success for us. People have been asking a few questions about it, so here's some behind-the-scenes info.
Is she really topless? How should I know, I was standing in the back of the room looking through a "Playboy". Strangely enough, the "Playboy" was from July 2000. I have no idea why Paul had a 7-year-old "Playboy" ready as a prop. I can only assume it's because it featured Jaime Bergman, whose blond hair and blue eyes fit Paul's type exactly. (Most of us are biologically frightened of potential inbreeding. He seems to embrace it.) When you guys are ninjas, is the girl on the "Playboy" also a ninja? Yes. And we can't believe someone noticed. After we shot the topless scene, we colored over Jaime Bergman with a black Sharpee, so that, as a ninja, I'd be looking at a ninja "Playboy". We didn't think it read on camera. Are there any other little things like that? Yes. Look in the background when Shannon's dancing. There are signs on the wall that say different things. Was the guy who jumped through the table hurt? Amazingly, no. And we actually did two takes. And we shot that at like 9 in the morning, so he was completely sober. Was the knee to the groin real? Sort of. I was wearing a cup. I tried to stuff a pillow down my pants too, but it looked like I had a FUPA so I took it out before we filmed. We did about 8 or 10 takes of that, and Jeremy was actually quite good about not making full contact with my genital region. There was partial contact, but nothing that hurt. Which is good. Because if you've watched our IdiOlympics videos, you know I deal with pain worse than anyone else on the planet. How did you get the animated NO WAY smiley in there? Paul's really good at video editing. I'm not positive how he did it. I think it involved a mix of Flash and Final Cut. He also said the word "keyframe" several dozen times when he was explaining it to me. How have the sites you spoofed reacted? REALLY well... most of them featured our video on their front pages. Kontraband and JibJab gave us the most dap, and we also got major love from iFilm, College Humor, Funny or Die and Break. Other random points... We only did one take of the final scene with the paint-covered mop, mostly because I didn't want to ruin my nice green shirt with blue paint... I did about five minutes of talking as the emo kid, and Paul cut it down to one sentence. I even sang some Fall Out Boy... Before the shoot, Shannon said her husband was "very worried" about just how topless the topless scene would be. |
